Imagine no longer having to worry about the uncontrollable mood swings that haunt you in the most impossible situations!
Instead, you could see and enjoy the menopause for what it is: a time of change and new possibilities. In Ayurveda, this time is seen as a transition into the phase of wisdom. A time to rediscover yourself and consciously shape your life.
Use our five tips from Ayurveda to overcome your physical complaints and mood swings during the menopause and look to the future with more joy and ease!
Menopause and mood swings from an Ayurvedic perspective
From an Ayurvedic perspective, the hormonal changes during the menopause have a direct effect on our dosha balance.
The Vata and Pitta doshas in particular are now often out of balance. An increased Vata can promote nervousness, anxiety, depressive moods and inner restlessness, whereas an excess of Pitta often manifests itself in the form of irritability, anger or heated emotions.
You perceive this imbalance as mood swings that can wash over you like a wave. You lack inner balance. This is exactly where Ayurveda comes in. With the right diet, stabilizing routines and balancing treatments, you can harmonize your doshas and support your emotional stability.
1st tip: Adapt your diet to your needs
In Ayurveda, nutrition is an essential part of maintaining mental balance.
- Especially during the menopause, you should focus on sattvic foods that calm the mind and provide the body with valuable nutrients. These include fresh, seasonal vegetables, grains such as rice and quinoa as well as calming herbs and spices such as turmeric, coriander and fennel.
- Make sure you regularly eat warm meals that are easy to digest! This will support your digestion and stimulate Agni (the digestive fire). Freshly cooked vegetable curries, soups or dals are perfect for this.
- Avoid spicy, acidic and overly heavy foods that could additionally stimulate Pitta and Vata!
2nd tip: Use regularity as an anchor for body and mind
Nothing is as beneficial as a regular daily routine, called Dinacharya in Ayurveda. It not only structures your day, but also helps you to stabilize your inner balance.
Make sure you wake up, eat and go to bed at the same time every day! Make sure you also remember to take regular rest breaks!
3rd tip: Rely on the calming effect of the massage
If you want to give yourself a loving time-out, try Abhyanga, the Ayurvedic full-body massage. It is a wonderful way to relax your body and stabilize your mood. To do this, massage your body in gentle, circular movements and with cooling oils such as coconut or almond oil!
This massage has a calming effect on the nervous system and helps you to reduce excess Pitta and stimulate your energy flow.
4th tip: Use targeted relaxation techniques from Ayurveda
Yoga, meditation and breathing exercises are essential components of Ayurvedic practice. Especially during the menopause, these relaxation techniques can help you to regain inner peace and balance your dosha balance.
Breathing techniques such as nadi shodhana in particular help you to maintain your emotional stability. Here too, however, only those who practise regularly will benefit from the exercises.
